At the Mike Wolf Tennis Academy academics come first! Our team GPA is 3.7 / 4.0. Our players attend the finest colleges and universities in the country. We expect academic performance and the players know that the tennis opportunities hinge upon their schoolwork. When you have a culture where academics are paramount and all parties actively support this, then the process goes smoothly.
We offer several different educational opportunities that have all afforded the players what they needed to achieve their academic goals. In most cases players will choose to stay in the traditional public school system. Kansas City is fortunate to have some highly acclaimed public schools. It works out that most players can be at the club between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm which allows for ample practice time. The flexibility to travel has also been advantageous as long as the academics are sound. The traditional school setting works well because it keeps things as simple and predictable as possible. We also have a select group of other players that choose to take correspondence classes or be home-schooled. These players aren’t selecting this option because it is easier, but rather because it offers additional flexibility and / or an even greater academic challenge. A number of these players are skipping grades or moving at a faster pace. We have private teachers that are responsible for this entire process.
We’ve had a number of players involved in each of the various academic settings and the primary criteria for the option selected is to ensure what’s best for the individual player. In all cases we’ve found the balance that allows the players to achieve their academic and athletic goals. At the Mike Wolf Tennis Academy you’ll find that there is an obvious positive athletic peer pressure but even more importantly a positive academic peer pressure.
